Acta hoping for good news from Nationals (AP)
Count Manny Acta as someone who interviewed with the Washington Nationals for their managerial opening and wants the job. Acta, the New York Mets’ third-base coach, said he met with Nationals president Stan Kasten, GM Jim Bowden and owners last month before traveling to Japan with a team of major league stars.

Nationals add 10 scouts, including former Devil Rays GM LaMar (AP)
Former Devil Rays general manager Chuck LaMar was among 10 people hired by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday in an overhaul of the team’s scouting staff. The Nationals also gave scouting director Dana Brown a contract extension. Lamar, Tampa Bay’s GM from 1995-05, will be a special assistant to Nationals general manager Jim Bowden.

Nationals agree to deals with 21 free agents (AP)
Right-handers Tim Redding and Joel Hanrahan agreed Monday to one-year contracts with the Washington Nationals along with infielder Josh Wilson and outfielder Michael Restovich. In addition to the four major league contracts, the Nationals agreed to 17 minor league deals. Thirteen of the 21 free agents are pitchers.
