Corrales hired as Nationals’ bench coach (AP)
Former major league manager Pat Corrales was hired Tuesday by the Washington Nationals as their bench coach, the position he held with Atlanta the past eight seasons. New Nationals manager Manny Acta completed his staff by also adding former Montreal Expos first-base coach Jerry Morales, third-base coach Tim Tolman and bullpen coach Rick Aponte.

Soriano to Cubs; Reds, Mets busy (AP)
Alfonso Soriano is the latest beneficiary of the Chicago Cubs’ spending splurge. Soriano and the Cubs reached a preliminary agreement on an eight-year contract worth about $136 million, a major league official told The Associated Press on Sunday, a deal that would be the fifth-largest in baseball history.

Hanley Ramirez of the Florida Marlins won a tight race for NL Rookie of the Year, and Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander took home the AL award Monday. Mets third-base coach Manny Acta is expected to be hired by the Washington Nationals as their new manager, a baseball official told The Associated Press on Saturday.
